Have a look for meths in builders merchants, usually the painting and decorating section, You can often pick up 5ltr bottles for about a tenner maybe a bit more, another good place is the pound shops.

If you need spare meths bottles see a hair dresser, they often have bottles they use for tints and dyes that are either 1/2 or 1 ltrs in size

And also remember to only use the solar / slow cooking tech for things its meant to be used for.

Ooh! Ta for the tips! There's a 99p shop round the corner. I'll try there :) I'm tempted to stick to the Trangia fuel bottle because my 1l is so tough, nothing will damage it and it's got a clever safety lock thing on the nozzle to stop leaks/accidental pouring and spills.

You can make a methylated spirit stove with "gas jets" just from one soda can and a knife.
Cut out the top, make largish holes on the side near the base and a ring of smaller holes at the shoulder. Pour in a splash of meths, burn it, once the temperature of the stove has increased, put the saucepan on top (the open top) and then the flames come out of the holes at the shoulder as the meths gets vaporized.

Practice it. Do it in a windless environment.

I have a couple of these, but as a spare bottle the dye/tints bottles are good as they are better type of plastic than the shop stuff.

I've seen them. Wouldn't mind a go at making one. I need to go out on an expedition somewhere to try it out because I don't have access to the back garden here and trying it in my room would get me in loads of trouble. I practiced my firesteel when I got one recently and in the novelty of creating sparks (and eventually a flame) didn't notice the amount of *smoke* I was creating. Cue Landlord banging on my door thinking I'd set the place on fire. Not my finest hour *ahem*

FINALLY got the plumber coming round tomorrow to sort out the thermostats on some of the rads so that I don't have to have every radiator in the house on full blast. And bought some of those snow cleat thingies from The Book People at work. Cheap as chips they were - £5.00 for AA ones.
