The BSA Supersport is a great buy too - basically it's a longer barrelled version of the BSA Lightning. The innards are exactly the same as the Lightning. I have heard that the Supersport is popular with pest controllers because it's sold at a very reasonable price.
Good news the BSA Lightning XL is now made in Brummie. This means it's a good buy also.
A secondhand British/German made gun is a far better idea than a new Chinese European copy.

Re: Definative Prepper airgun?
With the supersport can you take the iron sights off? I like the cleaner look just having a scope and no iron sights..
Re: Definative Prepper airgun?
Well you can with mine the carbine model bought around 1997-8 infact the way I have my scope mounted you have to break the barrel slightly to take the dust caps off the scope ( not load it, just enough to get an extra half inch of clearance)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Re: Definative Prepper airgun?
You can often have both - the iron sights often don't interfere with the scope if it's a short one.
Another thing which people make the mistake with is scope size - An airgun looks much neater if it is fitted with a smaller scope. No need to pay for larger optics (44,50,56) all you do is pay more. This is a lesson we have learnt from the Yanks who have never been very keen on large scope set ups.
I use a small Leapers Bugbuster 3-9 x 32 scope on all my 3 rifles (Diana 48, Brno Model 5, CZ 511) - http://www.jsramsbottom.com/products/ri ... dl%5D.html
No need to buy a larger (more expensive scope). Because it's such a small scope, it shouldn't interfere with your iron sights either.
It performs perfectly on .22LR Rimfire.

Here is an interesting link I found on cheap v expensive scopes. I fully endorse the view that cheaper scopes represent much better value for money.

That is an interesting read guess it's like that with many things you are just buying a named brand more then anything.modplod wrote:Here is an interesting link I found on cheap v expensive scopes. I fully endorse the view that cheaper scopes represent much better value for money.

Re: Definative Prepper airgun?
I got my iron sights taken off and put a £100 new sight then droped the gun and smashed one of the glasses. Iron sights are much more relabel but less accurate.

Re: Definative Prepper airgun?
dont think i saw anyone mention the BSA Stealth,, it is basically a lightning but with a synthetic stock which would last longer in adverse conditions.. it is also a nice matt black.. not shot one myself but heard a lot of good and as a springer you never need worry about finding a fill for it

Re: Definative Prepper airgun?
Just picked up today a BSA Lightning LX Tactical and a 3-9x50 scope. The rifle is second hand but looks new to me and it's also made in Brum, still yet to shoot it but so far I love it

Re: Definative Prepper airgun?
Nice... I am looking at a BSA but I am also tempted by the Weirhauch HW97K synthetic with a stainless finish. Bit of a difference in price but being an under lever I have heard the accuracy is better. Not buying anything until I get down the club and ask some questions.
