Is that algae on the inside, pseudonym? My word ... I've been wondering about the need to rotate water if you have one of the all-singing, all-dancing water filters, the Katadyn or whatever. Would it take algae like this out of the water, do you think?

Indeed it is.

It is due to the sunlight that the algae is present. The remainder of my water stored in the dark or in black containers is fine.

I just moved this box to get to something else and didn't cover it well enough.

As for the filters, I would use something like a Millbank bag or at a pinch a coffee filter/pair of tights to remove the large pieces then the filter or get it to a rolling boil for a couple of minutes.

I rotate my water supply bi-annualy as a given.

Increased rice stocks by 6 Kg thanks to tesco doing a 40p per Kg deal on their cheap sh@t.
Increased dry goods also by 4 Kg of brown lentils (YAY!!!) as Tesco has now got them in 2 Kg for £2.99 bags.

Brown lentils are amazing when sprouted and taste great when cooked normally too.

Also have done very well in creating a good gluten free, yeast free, dairy free and sugar free bread.

Tomorrow I am putting in the new alarm system. Early I will take the dog and catapult out. Cast some more lead balls( 14 mm) dropped a pigeon last week. Looking for rabbit tomorrow. Then I have to see Doctor - he wants me to have a cholesterol test!

Hi All,

Well I had a successful week last week and thanks to a little extra money than normal we managed about £50 worth of tinned food to add to our supply, I also started on buying paracetamol/asprin/ibruprofen and have complied a nice little stash although I did have to buy them in every shop/supermarket I went in due to the 2 ppacks per customer rule but as i was having a bit of a obsesive prepping week I was in and out of alot of shops :D

I have also been experimenting with drying food and herbs, made beef jerky for the first time and was really suprised at how good it tastes! I have invested in a food dehydrator that I found on a link on here somewhere that was £35 so not too bad as they seem to be pretty exspensive, been doing alot of youtube research on food dehydration and storage too, so looking forward to buying whatever fruit and veg I can get on offer when I'm shopping to keep our supplies up!

We spent a bit of time last week preserving veg from our garden as we had a massive amount that needed dealing with, have courgettes in oil, a couple of jars or pickled onions and a few jars of pickled beetroot, also went blackberry picking with the kids on monday and the other half made three massive jars of jam last night.

I have now decided to start on bug out bags, although we are planning to stay put or if absolutely needed leave to go to my parents if tshtf I figured what if we are out and something happens and all electrical items fail? so I have started putting together 2 basic bags designed just to keep us supplied until we get home to keep in the car boot :)

well I think thats all....... I had a busy week, but there always seems something else I think of, does it ever end??? ;) Oh one last thing we decided to have a power free weekend in a few weeks, gonna see if there is anything we need that we haven't thought of and rather realise we have overlooked something now than later.......... :geek:
