As about dreamers who dream of shtf: simple exercise for you. Grab your Bob, get into your fancy diesel old 4x4 and go to Scotland for 2 weeks, and pick some no man's land. After freezing your ass while shitting outside and starving after your dry food finishes you will get wiser and dream rather of nice world , boring world without wars and with good economy condition
Prepping is not only about military clothes and 2 years of supplies of dry food and soups in cans.
Good luck with your financial side of prepping.

Re: prepp(ar)ing for normal life
If I'm reading J23 correctly he's basically describing what many would term the "rat race" . That vicious cycle of working for money for all those things that can't be made by oneself or all those things we're convinced we need which then tie us into more work to pay for their upkeep and upgrade , etc. etc.Hamradioop wrote:Not sure where you are coming from old man!J23 wrote:

I can recommend one good book about getting out from rat race. Rich dad poor dad. Great book that opens eyes. It not so easy in real life but worth trying. After I finish removal and decorating my house I will write some more.grenfell wrote:If I'm reading J23 correctly he's basically describing what many would term the "rat race" . Thank you for the compliment, yes my outdoor skills are more developed than some/many here but that comes with spending decades in the hills and camping, joining survival groups pre the internet age et al, but you still have time to learn oldboy, any questions feel free to PM me and I'll do all I can to sort you out and help others...sharing skills is vital and you'll feel no shame in asking for help when help is there to have. Looking forward to meeting you at the 2015 Welsh winter camplonewolf wrote:i'll leave Rik to answer that one, he's the "living outdoors" expert!!J23 wrote:

Re: prepp(ar)ing for normal life
OK, I found some time to continue my idea of prepping. Lot of people took me for anti prepper etc, but to the point.
If you prepp - don't tell any1. keep it to yourself. If you'll start talking that you're prepper (o yeah I am prepper, I have enough food to feed my family for 2 years, I'll better post it on facebook so my "friends" can click like under photos) people will look at you like you're an idiot and once shtf (if it ever will on massive scale) you will be the guy who has supplies to "share". When I see preppers on YT I like watching them as it gives great ideas, but I know they already lost. Neighbours probably see them as freaks, and once shtf they will be in trouble unless they run away really quick from their neighbourhood
another thing - prepp for what is more likely to happen, If you can barely pay bills and buy food don't prepp for something silly like zombie apocalipse - spend the money for some course, nvq, get some profession. same with buying all the fancy stuff. 4x4, tents for 600 quid etc just to bug out. makes a difference once you can afford it but if you keep saving for 2 years to buy some old 4X4 only to have BOV - you need to sort your priorities, there are more important things than BOV or a tent, sleeping bag for -20C or knive for 100 Quid (I never had more expensive than tener and it was sharp and reliable, and enough for my needs, and I could use them for bushcraft and in warehouse, and to make sandwiches
)
and like I mentioned before financial future is important. Avoid debt - mortgage for my house is second debt in my life. I don't buy things I can't afford to buy for cash, why should I. Try to live frugal, try to save for times when you may not have health or strength to work, and improve your knowledge about financial markets.
important thing is health and good shape. keep fit, avoid bad habits - alco, cigs, drugs (probably some preppers take them that's why they prepp for ufo or zombies)
I can recommend martial arts, crossfit, but any sports acitivty does you good, plus of course good diet (if you'll save on food you'll lose on health). good quality meat if you can afford (no cheap mince, no cheap sausages made of cardboard) and lots of vegs
and a question to guys who wrote they would kill me If I'd go for their supplies - would you really? would you kill someone knowing that:
- I could be just scout for bigger group who will be searching for me? and they will take revenge?
- knowing that social disturbance won't last forever and all serious crimes will be punished?
- maybe there is small child left home waiting for his father?
you would probably shit your pants
this is how I see prepping. not some rambo wannabe in 4x4 packed with equipment in woodland camo trousers (of course as I wrote before fair enough if you're rich enough to buy them without cutting on more important things), but normal looking person who you'd never say is prepper, jeans, hoodie, civil rucksack that looks nowhere near army one, normal car, normal life and skills rather than equipment

Re: prepp(ar)ing for normal life
most of what you say makes some sort of sense and is along the lines of how I prep myself. however regarding your last comments I will just say(not wanting to offend Itsy that is) in a WROL situation don't take any chances, go somewhere easier and safer to obtain your supplies like an abandoned warehouse or industrial estate, expecting to obtain supplies from houses you don't know are occupied or not is a very risky endeavour.J23 wrote:

Re: prepp(ar)ing for normal life
Firstly, I'm old enough to remember only too well the last zombie uprising (Sennybridge '84), I got through that one so I will be prepared for the next.
Secondly, I'm pleased the 2015 winter Wales camp is back on but I'm only going if:
a) I can wear my Realtree woodland camo trousers
and
B) LoneWolf is checked for sharps, live rounds and pyrotechnics before nightfall.
Finally, the fact one is prepping, for whatever reason, is a good thing.

I'm not antisocial, just anti idiot.
If you use the phase "man up" you have alot to learn.
