Series IIa onwards had a full syncro box from new - no need for double declutching. It's been a while since I had my series but I don't remember the clutch being particularly heavy.
Loads of info on converting landies to gas on the net, make sure to read all of it as a lot of it is "pub knowledge", main limitation is range between fills and is basically dependant on the size and type of tank(s) you fit, you can only fill to 80% (there's an automatic cut off)
As a guide the other halfs Rx300 runs a 80l tank so the most you can get in is about 68l which gives a running about or towing range of 240ish miles and over 300 on a decent run.
My van has 2 tanks with a max fill of 125l at the moment - it should be more but one isn't going to full 80% capacity currently that gives a range of about 440 miles, I'm thinking of adding another smaller tank wired as a reserve in place of the petrol tank as I never use petrol unless I manage to run it out anyway.
