Why are you here ?

How are you preparing

The Scouts gave me a taste for the outdoor life - camp fires, survival, navigation. Went on to fell walking which I've now done for over 20 years. Then 7/7 happened (I work in London) and I had to borrow an A-Z map... Since that day I've gradually increased my EDC and bits and bobs, so I'm prepared for pretty much anything kicking off in London or at home (I live out in Essex).

Flooding in 2007 was the first kick up the a*se when most of the local area lost the water supply. Then watching house prices soar, even back then food prices were going up and there was always the fear of job loss. Back when my son was little there were times when we had no money for food and my dear mum had to bail us out. Never want that to happen again.
So it made sense - things have gotten a lot worse since then and I've learnt a lot more. Keeping my family safe, feed and watered is the most important thing. Buying food stocks while I can and storing water (amongst other things)

Is interesting to me to see how many mums of families find the way into prepping before their OHs. Mine thinks its all barmy and you're all nutters - but had to admit I had a point when we lived happily off the stash for 5 weeks during the snow last year. So he is gradually coming round I think.
I'm 11 miles from the nearest shop and we have bad weather often, so it makes sense to keep a good store cupboard as well as candles and Calor gas. Then this year we might have strikes as well as the hellish cost of petrol - so having your own "shop" in the back kitchen comes into its own.
So we've all got our own reasons for doing this but it is well worth doing isn't it ! And it's not at all :tinfoil !

Luck?Divine intervention? My reasons were not as clear cut, well, not at first.I was thinking about star signs and how I'm supposed to be a home loving creature who would have tins of food in a wardrobe for emergencies. I suppose the world was changing as well and it wasn't making me feel secure. Then, randomly,I started to reminicse about 'survivors',the original show and how much I loved it,and their way of life!A fresh start for humanity! So I thought I would look the show up on the computer, and came across a prepping site.
I began to see more of what was happening in the world, and how we should prep for any emergency, weather, job loss, ecoconomic collapse.
So,here I am guys.

Either the general discussion or the way out there forums in the off topic area would be fine :)
