Thank you all for your informative replies.

I THOUGHT it would be ok. I remember my Granddad had a paraffin heater when I was little, which was on a lot of the time.......and I grew up PERFECTLY normal! ! !!

Just to re iterate with others yes it's ok indoors but keep ventilated
I think the issue is for those of us who remember or have seen evidence of older lighting systems when refurbishing, will know we had gas in particular but yes sure it had to be oil prior to that or candles and indeed open fireplaces, it may have been deliberate to make old houses draughty for safety's sake, that would be interesting to know, the danger comes from modern ignorance be it forgotten knowledge or just plain lack of practical teaching these days, we changed fuels installed central heating as a norm and draught proofed our homes.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

True plymtom, the problem with today's houses is that they are so well sealed no air actually flows freely, it's like being hermetically sealed behind double and triple glazing

.....we're Doooooooooooommmmed

Oh sorry i got a bit carried away there

We had Paraffin heaters when i was a kid, yeah you got to get keep them well ventilated, and get them burning just right wilth that nice low Blue flame other wise they fume something terrible, one of the reasons in my early engineering days i designed and built a fan assisted one for my parents, I'll see if i can find the original Drawings and update em to post here :)

I cant definitely Promise anything though, a lot of my old designs got lost in a move

I've got a valor paraffin heater from the 70's. As mentioned above, it uses a ring type wick and when it's adjusted properly, it burns with a blue flame and is pretty much odourless. It also has a burner ring on top you can cook with, works great in our bell tent.
