you will need to find out what wattage your fridge freezer is first and then you can work out what kva genny you will need, machine mart is a good place or also look around for a good second hand one on ebay, local paper i would recommend a diesel genny they are more expensive but your running costs will be lower
Guys, A 1kW generator would happily run a house. My house ticks over below 500W.
Includes:-
Fridge,
Freezer,
All Lighting,
TV,
TV Boxes (sky and sh*t)
Computer,
It's only when you turn on things like:-
Washing Machine,
Tumble Dryer,
Iron,
Kettle (higher than you'd think, 2.2kW these days)
Microwave (my 900w takes about 1.2kW)
Power Shower (9.5kW, Biggest user)
Like Hobo, I'm going solar/wind with a battery bank and inverters. I'm hopefully going to be off-grid until I turn my shower on.
Look at your outgoings (power), it's less than you think. It's only when you turn on the big stuff when problems (and bills) rise. You won't need a big generator.
We had a 20kVA in my old office and that would run 50+ computers, lights and all products under test.
Ok great, tyvm

Well I haven't got a tumble dryer, or an iron (thankugod my son pinched it) ...or a microwave or a shower. And my kettle sits on the stove. Sometimes it's less faff to be low tech
not one to brag , but i have 2 .
an 850 watt ,that i use when i go camping to run the microwave .[ i`m lazy when it comes cooking for myself ]
i also have a brute of a thing that takes two to move , thats a 5.5 kva . it lives in a locker out back of my house with a lead to run inside if i need it .thats more than enough to run most things to keep the family happy , like the microwave ,tv sky and the computers . ive not considered linking to the house elecs just for the fact they might try and use everything at once . at least on a lead they have a limited number of sockets to plug in to .
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .

be warned there is no way tornicho can run all those appliances on 500 watts please be careful you will waste your money on buying a low kva genny and find it will run hardly anything at all,i worked in tool hire for 8 years hiring out gennys and tools i have enclosed a chart to work out your wattage
if you notice a fridge and a freezer needs 2000 watts just to switch it on its called a start surge then it will run at approx 500 watts
Hi sorry I meant to say, it would not be to run the whole house, just a few essential bits and pieces.... I am thinking about 2.5 kva which should allow me around 8-9 amps, a few lights, tv, and possibly laptop. Tho would love to go down solar/ wind myself once funds allow. Ps 500 watts to run a whole house.... Doubt that very much unless you have led everything. Thanks for all inputs tho, appreciated
