do you think its so that a health care proffesional can expertly diagnose your illness, or that human grade drugs have a huge profit margin on them ? or am i being a bit cynical ? it sounds similar to not being able to get ventolin over the counter here but every other country in the world you can !! nothing to do with pharmacutical company pressure then ?

Re: Over the counter Anti-Biotics?
on the last episode of doomsday preppers , a man bought fish antibiotics and said they were exactly the same as human ones. i dont doubt thats true but why have prescription meds if you can self medicate at the local tropical fish shop !

not a lot of people know that animal antibiotics are the same as human ones , yep human ones have a massive mark up , as more and more people get to know they are the same you will need a prescription for them !

Does that mean we can eat fish flakes too? Might be nice on a cappuccino!
I wonder if dog wormers would be safe to take in case of worms/parasites from low grade foods or animal contamination?

Re: Over the counter Anti-Biotics?
The dog de-wormer tablets is a good question. If as a prepper you are eating from the land (rabbits/birds/etc...) then its safe to assume that you will get worms (both threadworms and tape worms). We have 2 cats who enjoy hunting and eating things smaller than themselves, we have to worm them every 2-3 months.
There are two types of worms, thread worms and tape worms, you can buy thread-worm meds for humans over the counter. But tape worm meds you need a prescription for.
Does anyone know the difference between the dog/cat tape worm meds and the human ones.
It would be pretty grim knowing you (or a member of your family) have a tape worm taking the nutrients out of the little food you eat, and knowing that there is not much you can do about it.

Re: Over the counter Anti-Biotics?
In WWII it was a problem that killed people in prison camps in the Far East so it does deserve a look.
Tapeworm is one of the reasons that Pork is considered unclean by some religions. Part of its life-cycle is in the pig.
However, my cats don't eat pigs so it is easy to get it from mice etc too.

I'd learn about natural antibiotics too, like honey. I've used honey, lavender and thyme on all sort of cuts and its brilliant.

I would agree with this although it is an area in which my knowledge is severely lackingdiamond lil wrote:I'd learn about natural antibiotics too, like honey. I've used honey, lavender and thyme on all sort of cuts and its brilliant.

As someone who has kept tropical fish and reptiles I am positive that I read that a only a vet can prescribe antibiotics in the UK. I am almost sure that fish antibiotics are not available over the counter in Britain and Ireland. I think that people are reading articles from the States.
Re: Over the counter Anti-Biotics?
I defo would not go for fish anti's if you are allergic to penicillin the last thing u want is to be on your own taking something that will make you even worse? =)
Me all i am and all i want to be!
