new here from the north east

Post by norseman78 »

This is the year I've decided to try and start preparing ( idea is not new but I'm trying not to procrastinate any longer), not sure of the best way to start. The wife is on board when we spoke about it she seemed happy for me to go ahead basically saying she would hope I know what to do if things went bad lol. For ease of reading here is a quick run down on our situation:

1. No specific event I'm prepping for, but I know I want to have some general bases covered.
2. As a family of 5 bugging out is not a priority but still may have to plan for it.
3. Like most people we have a tight budget so it may be a slow process
4. I really wished I'd stuck around and helped my father with the household and mechanical jobs when in was at home rather than go out drinking with my mates.
5. I guess its the protective element in me coming out more over the last few years, not sure I like the way the world is going and realised I'm woefully unequipped both skillwise and equipment wise should things go bad.

There is probably more but I hope you get the gist.

Thanks, hope I can contribute. I have a feeling I'll be asking more questions, I also feel like I have loads to get done need to get organised with a list of priorities and salvage some space in the house to store stuff :D

Welcome to the forum

I would recommend thinking about a Bug-Out Plan. Or at least have some kit set aside that you can quickly lay your hands on should the house become unavailable for whatever reason. Vacuum packed clothes for all the family and wash kits at the very least?

I have a lot of family still in the North East, so if the S truly HTF then I'll possibly be arriving on your turf at some stage ;o)

Yeah that sounds like an idea, as a minimum I am looking to store a months worth of supplies, even this may take a while to do. I plan on purchasing 1 or 2 extra items each week and also keeping an open mind to learning relevant skills I hope to get there.
