Please forgive a stupid question, I'm a newbie and this will prove it; youve said, pseudynom, that youve stored more pasta, is this shop bought pasta? I see shop pasta with short dates, as well as rice and wonder where all you experienced preppers get these long life rices?

I have supermarket rice with dates of 2013. Although I haven't yet done this storing in mylar bags in food grade tubs with oxygen absorbers will extend the life of the dried food. Have a read of these threads. HTH :D

Ah, the wonders of marketing.

Sell by, use by and display until dates are a marketing thing as well as a stock keeping and rotating thing for huge amounts of food stuffs.

Learning these is a great start to prepping. :D

Not a stupid question at all.

As already stated above, don't let the supermarket dates fool you. Shop bought pasta is just flour, water and egg - then dried rather than the fresh stuff.

I like to think of it as being dehydrated for me by the supermarkets ;)

On a sad note I missed out on the paraffin stove

Better luck next time Pseudonym :D

For today I brought about another 1 Kg of rice to be stored under the bed and went for a long run through some of the cycle tracks around my village. (Good for building fitness and scouting secondary exits ;) )

Oh and spending a long time filling out Army Medical forms and the like :(

Now we need a recipe for the best way to serve this, I like cooking it in a frying pan add a couple of eggs and a spoon of beans.

This weeks preps will have to wait until the weekend, need to get a couple of jerry cans of Paraffin and also need some gas hose and some fittings to make up a rig for the gas lamp I got on Ebay a few weeks back.
