Persuaded Daughter to take responsibility for our medical kit. The Wife has also agreed to take over the food inventory (as long as I take sole responsibility for 'lubeing up the tins').
Once we work out a new monthly prep budget for each, this will leave me free to concentrate on other prep items.

Okay. Couple of things.itsybitsy wrote:What does that mean?Ogre wrote:(as long as I take sole responsibility for 'lubeing up the tins').
In the aftermath of Katrina it was reported on some US forums that representatives of the powers that be, were quite willing to confiscate stored food stocks to be shared for the 'common good'. However, they wouldn't touch stuff of 'unknown origin'. Home canned stores, tins with no labels etc. So, when adding to our stocks, we always strip the store label off and write on the tin its contents and best before date.
We also discovered that the glue used to stick the shop labels on can have a detrimental effect to tins in long time storage. To prevent this, every tin going in to storage now has a blob of vaseline rubbed all over it.
She who must be obeyed and daughter hate the feel of this, so. Daughter strips label off each tin on a tray, wife labels them up, muggins here has to carry them down to storeage, organise them and rub in the vaseline.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Continued the fight against damp this week with one interesting result. I have horrible aluminium frame windows which should be double glazed but have blown and are generally a complete waste of time. They run with condensation no matter what I do and also let a gale force wind blow in. Last year I went all round the edges with packing tape, which stopped the gale but not the condensation. This year I've got the de humidifier running and the heating turned up
which has helped a bit but not much. This week I've covered one window in bubble wrap and taped round the edges - result? No wind through and no condensation

Going to whittle it down a bit next year, especially the sugar as we like our home made wines and Sloe gin and Elderberry vodka

Had a cracking week on Freecycle! Got two carrier bags full of jam jars with lids, and off to pick up a load of hand tools on Saturday. The chap who owns them said they will need cleaning up as they've been in the shed for yonks, but I guess that won't be too hard...right?
