Had a powercut last night from 6pm and was still off at bedtime. Found we only had half a doz candles , so went up to Ikea and got two more boxes. Apparently a digger on a farm went through a cable..

I have been Ill this week but I have not lost my appetite.I have been most grateful for tinned ready meals during the day.Curry,Irish stew etc. Going to buy more as soon as I am well.

I think, given the illness thing, the same would apply in any stressful situation.Perhaps find what you like, use them and stock them.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Feel better soon jansman!

I've stocked up with 3 months worth of Sambucol for the kids (using 3 for 2 deal at Boots). Seemed to work a treat last winter with them getting only minor colds. Also bought lots of cold and flu OTC meds, vitamin c and echinacea for me.

Had my annual flu jab.

Started sawing up branches from allotment.

Replaced floorboards in allotment shed, put up guttering & downpipe and installed water butt. Just got to work on insulation now.

hope your feeling better soon Jansman.
Went to Asda and bought more spam and cornedbeef. Looking at the people shopping made me sad that they appear not to be prepared for any eventuality never mind the possibility of economic collapse. Though some of the older ones must watch the news and suspect something is afoot, after-all the politicians are using the phrase ( the world is a dangerous place) and tonight Christine Legaurd, spelling i know, has virtually admitted the problem is beyond politicians. This does not surprise me as economics and politics are two different animals and require different educational back grounds. Imho.
Anyway back to prepping I am going to create a run for the hens in my garden which is impervious to cats as a big tabby that looks evil keeps looking over the fence. They have free range until i make my home veg plot and would be constricted then any how. As any one lost hens to cats?

My big ginger tom looks sometimes but has never made a move and if the hens come too near the wire and then squawk or flap, he is the one to run not them!
I will start on the Flu Box next , is getting to that time of year again eh - and with no sun in the middle :(
Got the candles.

No, only to a very brave fox. We do have a large black cat (not a panther - we are in the area where they have been spotted though  ). At night when we go to lock them in, it is sat there looking at me from the other side of the run. He has killed a wild rabbit in out garden. I may just get him and take him for a long ride somewhere....... However, he cannot get in the run as it has a roof on it. But my hens are out in the garden if we are here during the day, so it is a worry.

Sunday is 'charging day' got the dynamo / electric lanterns charging. Same with any kit that uses a dynamo or mains charge. Also emptied, cleaned and refilled the water butts. Reminded the family about Elenin watch these next few days. Been up the ladder re-sealing the lean to roof before winter. Also check my parents BOB's. My fathers face was a picture. He'd forgot I'd put a 1/2 bottle of whisky in his.. :D Just for his nerves if he gets evacuated of course..

putting my new distiller through its first trial run to make sure that any factory chemicals get cleaned off (and also to enjoy playing with my new toy!!).

It works and at the advertised rate.

I want to get the water checked out for drink-ability taking into account that I might have to use some pretty rank water sources to distill if SHTF.
