Well, today I officially retired. After 40 years in the IT industry, and over 50 years since I built my first computer, I'm done.

So the prep for the week is simple. Implement Retirement Plan A. Been prepping for if for long enough- so as we used to say, let's see if the plan survives contact with the enemy ...

In fact, if I then close the door only slightly open, the humidity shoots back up! And then get the door back to 45 degrees, it shoots down again. It's amazing! I had mould on the painted walls for ages, so trying to stop it coming back.

Beware your not just venting the humidity into the rest of the house....

Likewise close trickle vents in the bathroom when the fans on.. as you'll just pull cold / damp air into the room

The bathroom door should have a bit of a gap under the door..

Aim is to draw warm house air in under the door as the fan shoves the damp air outside
Have compared humidity graphs for bathroom and landing. When the two sharp 20% RH drops occurred in bathroom, there were jumps in landing, but it was only 5%. I was running a dehumidifier just outside the bathroom, to catch any escaping humidity, and it did come down. I think the advantage of door open wider beats the slight leakage. After the first sharp drop, I had the door only open a few inches, and RH shot back up and stayed there until I opened it to 45 degrees. The far end of the bathroom is where I had mould on the walls, so that's the main priority. In colder weather I'll wipe the paint with a mop to clear condensation. Also I think in winter, door half open will allow warm air from hall/stairs/landing to warm the bathroom, and that should help to mitigate condensation.

Congratulations! That's great news. Do tell us about Retirement Plan A, I've been retired just over 9 years now, and the first 18 months or so were very different from what I'd always envisaged, because of events external to me. The plan was good, though

Congratulations an exciting time for you and I'm sure one which may take a bit of time getting used to. I would also like to know more about plan A and what you are going to do with all of your "spare time". As my Dad once said, he didnt know how he ever found the time to work. Do enjoy :D

Mainly financial planning, but also just getting my head around things. There is a new book out by Bec Wilson - How to have an Epic retirement. Just reading it now - lots of good information. Maybe we should start a Retirement Prepping topic.

So far this week I have:
- Increased my number of solar backup lanterns
- Installed my ecoflow power generator
- Fixed some leaking gutters
- Put up some additional plastic shelving in the cellar for future preps
- Trialing different methods for tin can storage (Vaccum sealed bags, plastic tubs with silica within), will leave for a few months to see how they are holding up

What I need to do over xmas period (if i get chance)
- Workout how my backup cable works on my solis inverter to make use of 20kw battery storage
