Age 65ish general health check

Post by Frnc »

Had a health check yesterday. Thought it was just blood pressure, but they asked me stuff like alcohol, took blood, gave me a pneumonia jab (which thankfully I had no reaction to), and today I got a text with some data and a link. I had to ring them to see if I'd ever been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which the receptionist said I had not.

The online thing had nothing about alcohol in.

Overall my heart age is same as real age.

Risk of heart attack or stroke is normal, moderate. On average I should be ok for another 15 years, 10-20% chance of heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years.

BMI is in the Healthy zone (just, but the moderate and obese zone are so big, I'm only about 25% along the scale). I also did the measurement thing. Waist should be half height. Mine is almost exactly that. Keks are a bit tight though, so need to lose a couple.

Bad cholesterol is just within the Healthy zone.

Blood pressure is ideal.

So I could do with lowering my BMI and bad cholesterol a bit.

Try to eat more:

oily fish, like mackerel and salmon
olive oil, rapeseed oil and spreads made from these oils
brown rice, wholegrain bread and wholewheat pasta
nuts and seeds
fruits and vegetables

Try to eat less:

meat pies, sausages and fatty meat
butter, lard and ghee
cream and hard cheese, like cheddar
cakes and biscuits
food that contains coconut oil or palm oil

Exercise more

Aim to do at least 150 minutes (2.5 hours) of exercise a week.

My calorie counter app says I am eating 95% of recommended saturated fat, and 80% of total recommended fat.

I need to cut my whisky intake, for all the obvious reasons, plus it can add cholesterol, even though it wasn't in the questionaire online.

And need to get out on the bike!

All good by the sounds of it.

A lot of folk think prepping is about supplies and bug out bags and it is, but it’s also physical and mental health related as well. It’s absolutely important to maintain your health to the best of your abilities and also take time to look after your MH as well.

I had a digital detox a couple of years ago as I was arguing with everyone online, I had a moment of clarity and thought ‘what on earth am I doing?’, deactivated a lot of accounts and switched off a lot of news apps, I felt better in about two weeks and haven’t missed it at all.

BTW, Frnc, as a fellow whisky drinker, I feel obliged to say that whisky is a fine lubricant to keep all joints going. No harm in a dram every so often. ;)

Cheers Kiwififer. Mental is important as well, for sure. Many people have some sort of issues. I don't argue online much. I talk to science deniers on X, but I don't let them stress me. I do have a few issues though, eg fear of being burgled. I get stressed just before I travel. And I've not met up with a friend, because I was invited to 'a few friends coming round' none of whom I know.
