Exercising at Home

Post by itsybitsy »

Given the prevailing situation, I've started working out at home. I don't have any equipment - for weights I've been using bottles filled with wet sand as getting hold of a set of free weights at the moment, in the increments I need, is almost impossible. As well as the workout below, I'm also managing around 8000 steps per day just in my home and garden; I've taken to having a 5 minute dance party every hour to get that step count up, as well as a few treks up and down the garden (it's tiny!).

Anyhoo- this is me - what are you guys doing?

3 x 10 deep lunges
3 x 10 squats
3 x 10 wall/worktop press ups
1 x wall sit – build up duration to 45 secs
3 x 10 heel touches
3 x 10 donkey kicks
3 x 10 side-to-side chops
3 x 10 reverse fly
3 x 10 overhead fly (feet together for added core work)
3 X 10 towel row

If anyone has any other ideas about how I can fashion a heavier hand weight to use that would be amazing!

Stack your cans into a strong bag and lift... Rucksack even better do the same exercises with the weight on your back.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

This lady is a pilates instructor a couple of towns over from me, and the video is her solution to all the classes being cancelled. I've yet to do everything  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6eNMAtEpxQ

I would advise to be careful if exercising, especially when/if rationing starts and you don’t have a great deal of supplies and variety of diet.

It uses up energy fast if not eating as well as in normal life, leading to dizziness and feeling faint.

Limit exercise, or spread routine throughout the day, not in the one go.

I recently acquired 12 large bags of compost that I had to transfer one at a time to my garden with the wheelbarrow, then round to the back garden plus the pallet was unusually heavy and sturdy.

With not eating as well as I might even then, no meat, fried stuff, or proper dinners, I thought I was going to fall over or have a heart attack. It took me a few hours to recover, my body shaking the whole time, my hands worst of all.

Sworkit app is good - has a range of bodyweight exercises from Beginners to Strength, Yoga, over-50s, injury recovery etc. Costs about £70 but well worth it in my opinion. I am sure there are other circuit training apps online, and there seems to be lots of youtube vids too. Our local group is doing a Joe Wicks online class.

Eek - I'd never pay for online workouts - there's so much information out there now, no need to pay for it IMHO, unless you have no knowledge of fitness.

Yes I hummed and hawed before paying but a) I'd used it for free for ages, b) they invest a %-age of profit into community healthcare, so I felt it was ok.

If you really want a blast form the past try 5BX

In the 1950's the Canadian airforce realised their pilots were unfit and wanted to do something about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Can ... cise_Plans

The plan was in part driven by the fact a Canadian Airforce base in winter is not an easy place to exercise. The designer of the regime also used the idea that a short period of intense exercise is effective idea ( strange how ideas come round again - Highintensity exercise).

Less than 15 minute per day.

Here's the plan

An excellent exercise plan as you can start on it whatever your age and whatever your initial level of fitness; it then builds very gradually. You don't need any specialised pieces of equipment just a few minutes every day. I used it way back in the 70's combined with regular jogging.
I wonder if I've still got my copy? A rumage through the bookcase will now begin (that will be sufficient exercise for today! )
There may be trouble ahead
But while there's moonlight and music
And love and romance
Let's face the music and dance
