Welcome, that sounds good! You've made a good start as a radio ham, and youtube is full of interesting stuff. Any favourite channels there so far?

welcome Andrew, I have been a ham since 1981 and agree with you on the need for ham Radio when the SHTF.

I was just about to send you an email via QRZ but you don't have your email addy enabled.
Never mind, welcome anyhow.

If you can hit GB3DA on a Monday from 20:00- 22:30 ish then we run a net which gets a few Kent stations popping in.
If you can then ask Pete, M0PSX to introduce you to the Ham that's into prepping and survivalism, he'll know exactly who.
Come to think of it I think Pete is on here as Essex Ham !

Once again, welcome.

Welcome mate, dont get to caught up in things, i know i did and filled my house with stuff from surviving zombies to economic collapse, just look at your own situation, just remember if you have to wait out a situation you want to be comfortable, so thats what your aiming for, initialy i thought i must have everything to help me survive on the bare minimum, but unless you eat and live like that normaly, it would be a big world of hurt.
So if you are looking at staying put, you want to be able to shut your doors and live as close to what you are now, for the amount of time your planning.

Thats how i see things now anyway, loads of info on here, if you cant find it ask, someone will put you on the right track. ;)
