I keep a cheap ali whistle on my key chain too, a bit battered but still works, takes up next to no space as well. One of those basic things that just makes sense to me.

Whistles also require less energy to draw attention, takes longer to make you go hoarse. 8-) But I'm sure you already all know that.... :s sorry.

If its still the same, most water in Scotland is accessible to its citizens, as in if you know of a nearby stream or river, you are allowed to use some. On the other hand the annoying thing about Scottish laws is there aren't trespassing laws, obviously the military bases and a few other bits n pieces aren't allowed free willy nilly access on but anyone can walk in your garden etc. That technicality always concerned me for some reason. But if they are potentially building allotments before you means that anyone can walk though them. :x

I think water butts are a fabulous idea! Very practical and if you can get them in the right place - very useful when watering plants. This is the cheapest one online I found online recently. I hope it helps.
