I’m looking at preppping for likely possibilities such as food shortages, Power failures, extreme weather conditions and social unrest. I am very new to this but I am ex military so I’m not completely clueless.

Stock up on food and batteries and keep a stash of money handy.
Learn how to fix things (electrics, plumbing etc)

The two aren't mutually exclusive in my experience.

Welcome to the forum, as others have said, have a nose through and see what appeals to you. Figure out what you're looking to achieve and work towards it and enjoy it, we don't prep because we hate it.
