Might be the thin end of the wedge or it may come to nothing , discussed yesterday morning on radio 4 , but the first British banks have made a statement,

No no no no no. They will always STORE value, not increase in value (except for short-term variations). In 50BC, an ounce of gold would buy you a really nice toga, assuming you didn't fall foul of the sumptuary laws. In 2016AD, an ounce of gold will buy you a really nice suit. Not much increase in value, but a good store.
