This statistic might help people visualise the amount of debt we are planning to run up.

If we had a £1000 bank note..... (Current bank notes are 0.11mm thick.)

£1 million in £1000 bank notes would produce a pile 4" inches high.

£1 billion in £1000 bank notes would produce a pile 300' feet high.

£1 trillion in £1000 bank notes would produce a pile 63 miles high.

That a lot of debt folks.

There's an unexpected consequence I found out this morning: one of my sister's friends doesn't have much food in the house, and decided to buy a freezer to supplement her ginormous American fridge (a lot of dozy rich people in this part of the world). Many stores are sold out of chest freezers, and won't allow pre-ordering. Ikea have a few, apparently.

I found that out a few weeks back Arzosah. Tried to get a chest freezer for the spare room but none to be had.

Well,a week on or so from the last post on this thread, and a collapse looks far more likely. The BBC report almost a million people have applied for Universal Credit in the last two weeks. That doesn't count those who cannot get through, and those who have yet to try.

I think we can safely say that we are in the s£it.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

I woke up thinking about this, we're living in very dangerous times what with the virus on one hand and the Boris Bunch on the other...

The end of the month (pay-day) has passed for most people, without them being paid in some/many cases, now the real test begins. When you are used to not having very much anyway and even that gets taken away....

Some difficult times ahead. :(

Me too. More of a panic than a thought.
