Only 2 frequencies to watch if SHTF, both HF

27.555.00 Mhz, am usb
And
14.215.00 Mhz, am, usb

Yes you can watch the ones listed above, but one thing comes into play with them. Which is range,

Oh cool! So can I get a cheap radio that will do that for me? Can I call the rescue services. Do they listen all the time or just when they are looking for survivors?

You find one, check out a couple of speicalist ham radio suppliers as it's availble in some portable 20 meter radios. Rather than hand held.

No, this is for big time SHTF only. But you may strike lucky.

Too big for my bob! Who can I call with one of those? I want to know I can reach the rescuers.

You may want to look through some of Malthouses posts, he contributed some good information about some handheld transceivers that you may want to look into. The kit Leo seems to be talking about is all fixed, not much use for a BOB.
