looking at the TYT UV8000E

Post by seadog »

Hi guys, any one any experience with the TYT UV8000E?
Thinking of buying a couple, advertised at 10watt o/p, but thats on the 400-520Mhz band, more like 8watts on the 136-174Mhz band.
I already own some UV5R's , our favourite bidding site has these listed.
If no one has any thoughts, I'll buy a pair and review them.

I've been using the transciever for a few weeks now. I'm very impressed with them. They look and feel well made. Very easy to operate as compared to the Baofeng units, they have an extra knob that allows you to scroll through frequencies and options easily, very clear sound, and the display is large and easy to read, (without glasses!).
Power levels are selectable 10w or 5w on 136 to174mhz and 400 to 520mhz, and it came with two aerials, a stuby and a large whip. Batery life seems good, last night I contacted a chap over 15 miles away, he gave me a strong signal report, and was as clear as a bell!
