A BNC adapter and a mag mount antenna makes even more difference, i buy this a car power adapter and a hand mic for all my handies, being able to use them in the car like this makes them far more useful, a good 5/8 wave antenna on a mag mount will greatly extend your range.

I just did a google of the radio and it seems the UV-5RC uses a sma antenna. on my baofeng handies I use a sma to PL259 if I ever fancy chucking my handie through my 2 & 70 dipole in't attic.
