I forgot about the tablets

I still say if you want to store something to treat water, you're better off with tabs designed to treat water.
If you want to store water, then new cheap bleach is the most cost effective option

A quick further question on the bleach subject, what would be the suggested amount to add ? Is it a(roughly) a drop or capful a litre or for 5 litres or what ? Any steerage would be much appreciated. Cheers in advance peeps.
