Best/favorite EDC torch?

Post by munchh »

Im looking to update my pocket EDC now i have a new multitool, im thinking of making a new pouch that holds it with a ferro rod on one side and a single battery (AA or AAA) torch on the other.
i have one of these cyberlite head torches and the fact it is single AA and just how good it is makes me think there must be something similar in a cylinter type torch, semi rugged, so aluminium casing.

I thought id tap into you guys/girls pockets to see what you have. I have had one of these chinese "cree" high voltage rechargable AA size torches, multi stage brightness and flashes morse code "SOS", its a brilliant torch, but i cannot just bung a new battery in it if i was stuck out with it.

so, whats yours?

I'm a big fan of the cree's and I keep one in each of my dog walking jackets, they are a bit bulky to keep in my trouser pocket though. I did have a thrunite Ti2 which were really good and bright but it kept coming apart in my pocket and I ended up 'killing' it so I've reverted back to the smally maglites.

I also keep one of these in my wallet with a couple of sets of spare batteries (they came with it).

For the size of them they kick out a lot of power.

Also something to consider if you haven't already is the torch app for your phone, most people wouldn't set foot outside without their phone. :)

Let us know what you settle on.

I've been using this one for the past 2 years

Not cheap far from it but it's been brilliant used most days in work as a head torch but small enough to keep clipped to a pocket the headband comes off. I've also got an older version of it that isn't right angled which has been great too.

You've reminded me of these, I've had my eye on them but haven't got one so can't comment but they're a good bit cheaper.

They look like an almost identical copy of the zebralight and at that price maybe worth a punt

Maglite solitaire single AAA led. Simplely because it needs the bezzle rotating to turn on so its almost impossible to turn on in your pocket

I've had a couple of these since October 2014 and use them as my EDC (one lives in my work jeans, the other with my other clothes)
The pocket clips are a bit wappy.
However they don't seem to use any power as the batteries last for ages.
The 'throw' of light is massive, I've lit up a clearing the size of about half a football pitch well enough for someone at the far end to find the end of their tent zip.
You select 'flood' or 'spot' by sliding the end forwards or back and the lens focuses the output, because of this the 'spot' is square :o

All in all a good little torch for under two notes..... And they're currently 3p cheaper then I paid :x

Fenix E01 for me. 21 hours of light from a single AAA battery.

My EDC is the same as yours Forgecorvus but I took the pocket clips off, I also have a cheap one with the company logo on it on my house keys and a little cheap one the wife picked up while she was out and about on my car keys.

What? No I haven't got a thing about torches.............................................................honest.
