This is a recipe posted by metatron that i now use as my main one. Usually I just make rolls which i then freeze and they are used in lunch boxes in the week. Today I used the same recipe to make 2 loaves of bread (normally I use the electric breadmaker).
This is a roll recipe I use a lot, you will need:
900g of strong white plain flour
2 teaspoons of salt
50g of butter
4 teaspoons of dried yeast
550ml of warm water
Oil (about a spoon full)
1. Add the flour, and butter, salt together and mix it together with a knife.
2. Add the yeast and mix through with the knife.
3. Add the warm water and mix the ingredients together until it comes together.
4. Tip out on a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes.
5. Oil the bowl and cover with a plastic bag for an hour.
6. Push the dough down to remove some of the air.
7. Split the dough into 14 balls and stick on an oiled tray and leave somewhere warm for 40 minutes uncovered.
8. Bake at the hottest heat your oven can do for around 10 minutes.
9. Eat
I haven't bought supermarket bread or rolls since last summer. Its not too time consuming to do this, while it's rising you can go off and do something else. Cost is for todays baking between £1.50 and £2.00 approx.
I had a breadmaker ten yrs ago. It went well. Then it packed up and I never bothered. This is inspiring. Now we have more time and less work we are finding ways to save cash. We eat a lot of bread. Is there any brand of breadmaker you all like? Great pictures.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.
After lots of research I chose one reccomended by Good Housekeeping magazine.
It is the Panasonic SD-253. I bought it from Lakeland Ltd about 4 years ago and it's still going strong. Very happy with the bread it makes, better than my previous one.
My Mum had a different one (can't remember what it was ) and it made horrible bread.
Jansman I got mine because everybody over on MSE said they were the best - but the old freecycle one still makes decent bread. Nothing like shop bought stuff... much more filling.
