I'm a bit overwhelmed! I really fancy having a crack at that! Curry night tomorrow I think, chickpeas first.

Thanks mate! I'll come up with more, I've got a case full of tins that I don't know what I'll actually do with. But does anyone else want to have a go first?

Tin of Mackerel (or any tinned fish really)
Two Slices of Bread
Grated Cheese
Herbs/Sauce to taste
Toast bread on one side under grill. Drain and mash the mackerel up with herbs/Sauce to suit (I like oregano and tomato/chilli ketchup).
Turn toast over, spread mackerel mash onto the untoasted side of bread and top with grated cheese.
Soon as cheese is bubbly and going brown remove from grill and scoff.
Better than any pizza.

Oh all right then...

Corned beef! Other than sandwiches and corned been hash - what's to do with this?

BOOM! That is creative. And better than pizza. Anything is better than pizza though. I hate pizza. Did I mention that pizza is not my favourite food?
Joking aside, it is a nice idea Hedgie. :D

Corned dog! Military staple that is. So it has to be... Corned beef curry! When I was a lad in the RM, we did this with curry powder and tomato ketchup. Now I do it Carp Fisherman style!

Fry up some onions and soften em up. Stir in curry paste ( your choice, your strength ) or curry powder. It is a preppers recipe after all. Chuck in some tinned tomatoes and chop em up. Simmer for a minute or two. Add a tin of coconut milk or some yoghurt, or just water if that is all you have. Then stir in chopped CORNED BEEF. stir gently to keep it in pieces. Or you can mush it up. Your choice. Chuck in some chopped coriander and serve with rice. Lovely.

CORNED BEEF BURGERS. For this, a food processor makes the job easier. Into the processor put onion , garlic and a little chilli. Whatever suits you. Blitz it. Then crumble a slice of bread, an egg and a tin of corned beef in. And some black pepper. NO SALT. there is enough in the corned dog. Blitz it together and then form into burgers. Cook and consume as normal beef burgers.

Stovies, recipes vary, its traditionally whatever's left, some use mince but corned 'dog' is also popular.

Battered and fried as fritters , probably too much fat for everyday consumption but lovely non the less.

Think I might stock up on more corned beef - looks to be a fantastic prep food.

Wonder how long a tin would actually last and still be good. Sell by dates are not really trustworthy, are they? Most cans will last way longer than they imply.

Ha ha! I bought up a load of corned dog 5 years ago, being in the trade I got the heads up the price was moving up. I am just finishing stuff a year over date. No problem.

Bear in mind that in the Second World War, troops were fed ( in the early years) corned beef that was produced during the First World War. 20 year use by date!

Make sure you actually like it though before you stock up.
