Lentil bread

Post by nickdutch »

1 Cup Urad Dal (Urid Dal) lentils (its the best lentil to make a bready thing with!! Seriously!!) Soaked overnight.
3 Tablespoons of Gram Flour.
1/2 Tablespoon baking powder
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups water

Blend on high speed until its all a thick and creamy liquid batter

Pour into cupcake baking tray.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200 Celsius for 45 minutes.

Turn out onto a cooking rack until cooker

Eat promptly (as there will still be some dampness in the "crumb")

But its GORGEOUS!!!

Might have to try this - does it work with red lentils, do you know?

Urid Dal is the lentil that Indians use to make popadom and similar breads. Its the most bread flour like of any lentil. Other lentils dont perform in the same way.

Anther thing to remember if for instance you are making pancakes from gram flour (chickpea flour) is that you have to soak the flour with the water for a while (more than 15 minutes and ideally over one hour or more, possibly even overnight in a fridge) in order to enable it to cook right.
