DIY Char Rope/Trench Lighter

Post by Hillybilly444 »

Whilst surfing the topic of char cloth, I came across this idea (about half way down the page) for a char rope "trench lighter"...a neat idea I thought I'd share!

Excellent bit of kit, takes a spark easily.

I have one of these in my firelighting kit:

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Instead of char cloth, I use common kero lantern wick. Works the treat.

Held at the end of a ferrorod, the spark is easy to catch

Store the wick in a film can to keep dry and use a can opener (P38) as the striker - dual use, eh?
