i enjoy smoked salmon , but after when you have "smoked it" is it ready to eat or do you still have to cook it ??? silly novice question - sorry

ETA. Its a cold smoking setup, but because he cures the fish its ready to eat as is.
You can also hot smoke stuff from raw and it comes out cooked
