Axe head restoration

Hand firmly in the air.... I'm a Scavenger!

Long story short a local house with stables (dilapidated) is up for public auction, with planning permission to demolish all buildings, this was a enough for a quick look see.... not much left of any use other than this mega axe head! it looks a bit heavy duty tree felling type of job, I'm looking to clean it up and move it on as it wont fit in my pack, more photos as it happens,

All the best "H"

Not too bad for free ;)

You've got a fairly modern all-steel 'Scandinavian' type felling axe head there.
It will be a good cutting axe due to the long taper.

Whats your plan to start ?

hello ForgeCorvus,

1st point is to soak it in used oil for a couple of days, then taking a dull blade loosen an remove all the rust, I cant see any makers marks as yet but cleaning may reveal more information, more photos and updates as it happens,

cheers "H"

One good thing is that the back of the head doesn't look like it's ever been hit with a hammer. I've seen a fair few that are really quite upset .
