I can see much point in either of those 2 particular stoves as you are going to struggle to generate enough heat to cook anything or boil water etc.

However, the same guy on Youtube also shows you how to make a simple Wood Gas Stove from a couple of tin cans, that is much more useful and useable in terms of being able to cook things on:

that is really good! going to give this a go over the next few days and see how it turns out, using a 400g and 300g can and see how long it takes to boil a small pan of water

I think it has more to do with the Altoids tin, as Americans have an absolute fetish for making thinks that fit an Altoids tins.

My favourite thing about this one is that you can put your food into the mess tin, clean the tin and then set about making the stove to cook said food in. it saves a little carrying weight and space.

The "altoids" one seems to have a rather small fire base and so getting a full rolling boil to do cooking on would be a real challenge. Although it was a portable kit, it lacked a wind guard too. A wood fire with it might take a lot of refuelling as it is so small, but with hexi blocks or a small trangea or similar alcohol burner it might be better. Still, a fun project though.
