I find "canning" makes you think of people actually buying tin cans and stuffing food into them. Bottling up sounds a far better way of describing it to me

I looked into bottling put it requires a certain amount of specialist equipment so financially not an option at the mo. However, managed to freeze the extra of all our veg from last summer. Just finished the carrot, still plenty of runner beans left :D
(put not a good storage option if no electricity! :? )

Sue, somebody on another forum told me how to do it without equipment apart from a big pot like a jam pan. I will go back and hunt for the instructions. Her granny showed her how.

I was told recently that it can be done in a pressure cooker, although I haven't a clue how this is done.

You don't need industrial specialist equipment. This article is VERY helpful.

Is handy to know how to do this, I hate being totally dependant on a freezer.

Thanks, I've got half a dozen Kilner jars to put to use. I'll give it a try.
