Food Staple Storage

Post by itsybitsy »

Question: if you store rice/sugar/flour etc in food grade buckets with GOOD lids (i.e. airtight) do you still need to mylar them first? I've watched a few videos and some people do and some people don't. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this? How do you store your staples?

I was reading somewhere about oxygen thingys that you put in the tubs but I couldn't find anywhere in the Uk to get them.
I'm sure someone here will know! :)

You can get them off various UK internet sites - but I thought they could only be used in the mylar bags - arrrrrghhhh!!!

Cheers, Hobo.
Do you put them straight into sealable tubs or do you use mylar bags as well?

Would rice, etc keep as long if it were just tipped straight in the plastic tubs with oxygen whatnots as it would in mylar bags and THEN in the buckets?

If you search youtube for "wendy mae" you will find quite a few vids as well

Seal oxygen absorbers with food in mylar bags. Then put bags in tubs. Makes it easier to store and is more rodent proof.
