I've never heard of that or done it. Sounds like a spoof. If you want big potatoes there are a few things you can do: use big seed potatoes, rub off all but 2 or 3 chits before planting, feed and water well, throw away the small potatoes.

I've grown tatties for 40 years and never heard of this? My dad didn't do that either, he had a big allotment.

I had a quick look around and it seems removing the flowers is quite common to do but there is no evidence that it increases yield significantly or even noticeably.

I just tipped out the first 12” pot of new spuds ( Duke Of York). I let the flowers form, and the haulms keeled over of their own accord. Even if it were a good idea to remove the flowers ( and I don’t know one way or the other), I couldn’t be bothered to be honest.
