Lidl Mispriced Cheap Tomatoes

A heads up for the stockpilers:-

Lidl have their Freshona Tinned Plum Tomatoes reduced dramatically to 19p per 400g tin. I think it was only supposed to be a short term offer on old stock.

Somewhere along the way there's some mis-pricing gone on.

I'd read somewhere (HotUKDeals) that they are currently reduced, so I popped by. Sure enough there was a big A4 sign saying Feshona Plum Tomatoes reduced from 34p to 19p. There was no other pricing for those tins, but their 'simply' value brand was marked as 28p or 29p.

So I took 13 tins to the checkout. (Plus something trivial) Was rather dumbstruck that it came to more than a fiver, as I took them to my car.

So I checked my receipt and went back to check the price marking. There was no ambiguity, so I re-queued at the checkout and challenged the assistant, whose shift had only just started. She tried to tell me that it was 'the ones in the white tin' that are reduced, but I stood my ground. Very flustered, she ran out into the store, hoping to prove me wrong, before skulking bag to the till to give me my £1.95 refund.

It's a bummer that they mis-price stuff and that even as I left, the wrong price was still there.

So, Lidl, be on notice. I'll be visiting a different Lidl on Monday and if they are priced at 19p, there, I'll be emptying the shelf.

These Freshona tinned tomatoes are pretty darned decent and dated some time in 2020. Far better than their simply brand.
