Storing Sun Dried Tomatoes

Post by itsybitsy »

I'm just about to push the button on an order of herbs/spices etc. One of my items is 1kg of sun dried tomatoes. Question - what's the best way to store them and how long will they last? They aren't in oil BTW - they are actually dried!

Thanks peeps.

Keep ‘em in an airtight container, in the dark at a reasonably cool temperature. I dehydrate all of my surplus tomatoes, and store them in jars. They last easily a year and beyond.

Store them in the dark and if you have oxygen absorbers that will help a lot, or vacuum seal them, they will oxidize and go weird otherwise.

It'll take a while but they taste weird if the air can get to them, I had some go a bit odd, they were a good couple of years old though and I don't think my container was properly airtight.

OK, so consensus - airtight container with an oxy absorber chucked in for good measure?

I would certainly agree.

I would agree with that too, as long as they're in the dark, dry and airtight they should last ages.
