Blight detected.

Post by Brambles »

For all you gardeners with potatoes and tomatoes outside, keep an eye, I have just received a blight warning warning from Blightwatch.

https://blightwatch.co.uk

You just need to sign up and they will send an email alert when conditions a right for blight.

So if you have outdoor tomatoes, give them a wash with aspirin mixture

So a salicylic drench is the advised prophylactic treatment? I have only done this stuff large scale, farming, in the past.

The substances were things that one a) cannot buy anymore, and b) I wouldnt want to use now, anyway

I think we can safely say there's a bit of a difference between a couple of soluble aspirin dissolved in a gallon of water to induce a blight resistance and the chemical horrors of intensive farming methods.

My potato forest has been liberally sprayed! As have my rather less forest-like tomatoes. I have already sprayed them a couple of times since they first appeared, just in case. Thanks for the heads up! :D

I guess we'll only know for sure if it *doesn't* work! :D What's the incubation period on blight? How long do we wait to see before we can assume we're in the clear?
