Poly Tunnels

Post by Mick104 »

I made a few vids to day of my polytunnel, you might notice I don't cultivate the ground its covered with black poly and all the plants are grown in containers .
The vids were made with my phone, so far from professional.
I grow a lot of potato's under controlled conditions as I maintain 12 varieties for seed for my self and a few others.
Here you go .

Looks like a nice set up you have there. A good range of veg.

A question though. I saw you root potato cuttings for planting on later. How successful \productive do you find this to be? I have never done it myself but am interested in how you get on with it as I'm always open to try other methods.

I use rooted cuttings of Potato's to produce seed tubers, for an explanation and technique see here .
http://pdf.usaid.gov/pdf_docs/PNABC125.pdf
The cuttings you see in the cloche now will be grown on in 15 ltr pots and will produce tubers by about May, they will then need a period of dormancy after which we will plant them in the ground (August) in a tunnel or out doors. Those planted out side will need cloche cover after mid oct or during long spells of heavy rain.
With the aid of an unheated Tunnel I can produce and harvest spuds from April to December.
I will put together a post on growing spuds over an extended period when I get a bit of time .

You might also notice the Brassicas in large pots, these seeds were sown last October and now 20th of March I have heads of calabrese and cauliflower starting to form .
