Cheap veg

Post by jeebus »

Last year I was pretty chuffed with myself when I found that ASDA were selling carrots and broccoli for just 20p. I make a lot of soup so I stocked up.

Apparently there is a bit of a price war between the supermarkets this year and you can get the following from Aldi:

Maris Piper potatoes (2.5kg) - 28p
Parsnips (600g) - 19p
Brussels sprouts (500g) - 19p
Broccoli (360g) - 19p
Carrots (1kg) - 19p
Swede (each) - 28p

Details of the other supermarket veg offers can be found on the Money Saving Expert website.

Does anyone have experience with storing Maris Piper potatoes, as I intend to buy a few bags at this price? I was thinking remove them from bags and place them in cardboard boxes in the shed.

I've never stored washed potatoes, but I can't see there being a problem with storing them as you suggest as long as you check them regularly.

I was at Aldi this morning, and their veg section had taken a battering. In fact everything had.

It has to be unsustainable. When producers go to the wall,( working for nothing is bonkers) then prices are bound to rise.

ALDI do something called Super Six each week and do six fruits/vegetables for next to nothing. Maybe this is their Christmas selection.
