Excalibur Dehydrator Review.

Post by Brambles »

Well, I've used it a few times now and I can honestly say, it's the bits. No more rotating trays, easy to clean, it's quiet and holds shedloads. It has a thermostatic control but not a timer, I have a timer plug anywhay so I use that. :)

First time was Leeks. I had 6 large Leeks, sliced and blanched them and they filled 3 of the trays. Dried as per recommended temp 125 deg they took 8 hours. The finished product is definitely better than that from my old dehydrator.

Dried pretty quick too, when I've done leeks they've taken ages.

Out of curiosity, how long is the shelf life now that they've been dehydrated?

We've got the nine tray one, the timer is OK but I bet an external one is better, I used ours this morning 150 cases dry in an hour :)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

It depends how you store them. In a jar stored in the cupboard for everyday use 1-2 years, but mine ar usually gone long before that. :D I have also stored in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers and finished the last one in 2016, the contents were 5 years old, I'm not much into long term storage anymore.

I have the same one Brambles and i am on my third one in less than two years

First one the element went and got replaced. The new one arrived and i could'nt pull out the top drawer due to damage and the replacement for that now wont heat up enough to dry stuff out

Maybe im just unlucky,im sure most are ok. Have fun dehydrating.

Edit For Update. Just spoke to the supplier and its being picked up tomorrowto be looked at. So fingers crossed ;)
