If you're in the newsagents have a browse through the latest issue of Practical Boat Owner which has a feature on sailboats under £10k. You may be surprised.

if its for shtf , could you just take lessons untill you know what your doing then when sitx happnes just help yourself to sombodys boat.

Another thing to consider is whether you have direct access to open water. If you're in a marina with dock gates and there's an extreme SHTF situation will the power still be running to open them and would you know how to do it if there was no operator around?

I have considered a boat as a bug out vehicle but it does hold heavy risks since the ocean is a dangerous place especially out in the open ocean.. And I would be concerned a boat would draw too much attention, if people from shore spot you it would be pretty apparent you are well prepared and they may want your resources..
