Bug Out Boat

Post by Lone »

This might have been mentioned before, but has anyone read this book ?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nautical-Prepp ... oks&sr=1-1

Not got it myself, and actually couldn’t prep this way...I get seasick !🤢

Anyone got a boat to get away from the chaos that might be happening on land ?

If I spend a lot of money on a boat I want the one in Alaska that’s made out of a special plastic that can jump fallen trees and if it gets grounded you can just push it out yourself. I’ll see if I can look up the details...

But I’ve tried to make the case for at least a canoe with all the flooding we’ve had down here this year, but got poo poed so next is to save up for an inflatable I guess.

With all the flooding round here I think it’s a bit ridiculous not having a boat and relying on emergency services to rescue everyone...

You have a good case...as it is not the first time on the news I’ve seen someone in a canoe/kayak on the flooded streets...even a rowing boat to gather supplies.

Even saw people on skis in a bad winter.,.including on my own street, trying out a hill just up the road...

I say if you get flooding to a great extent then get a canoe or rowing boat..and anywhere prone to thick snow...get skis or snow shoes...it doesn’t matter what others think...I’ve seen it myself.

Why wait for rescue when you can rescue yourself...and likely others who are stranded and need help...rather than listening to others and not giving yourself the option.

If I lived on a street that got flooded, I’d rather own a rowing boat, than trudge through water that is mixed with the sewers...or risk falling into unseen holes or tripping on obstacles.

Get a canoe/kayak and the wall brackets you can get to secure it to a garage wall out of the way, until needed...

To be fair to them, where we live we aren't on a flood plain. but mostly everywhere surrounding us was flooding. I was more using it for an an excuse to get a canoe and it did nae work.

There's an old joke:
Q. How do you get one million pounds ?
A. Start with two million and buy a boat.

Maritime antics ? Not for me, Clive.

It was interesting see in the floods last year I think, that a vast area was flooded, river burst its banks, but a farmer’s building through his own efforts, stood out like an island with the flood barrier he put up encircling his home...obviously unable to protect his whole land.

Whether he had a boat of any sort I don’t know, but isolated like he was, unless stocked up and possibly having his own power generator, a mode of transport would have been essential. Water deeper than his tractor wheels.

It did notify others that in such an event, there has to be compromise, as it might not be practical to protect everything around your home...gardens, etc...

Funnily enough,I do have a bug out boat of sorts. My brother and I own a small island in the river near here, that our grandad willed to us many moons ago.I keep a dinghy and outboard at the local mill,as the only way to it is by boat.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
