Ask Dr Apocalypse
Re: Ask Dr Apocalypse
What would be the best technique for transfusing blood from one person to another? I have a family member who need's regular factor VIII injections but we only keep a one month supply of those drugs. I have been thinking about this for a long time and would stop prophylaxis immediately if the drug supply ran out, I would move to treating bleeds as they occurred but obviously we would run out eventually. I think we would need to transfuse whole blood as the factor VIII content of the blood would be the important bit so use of an anti-coagulant would probably not be helpful in this case. We are trained in giving IV injections, I have no experience of using canula's but I am pretty sure I could make it happen if I needed to...

Hi Dr Apocalypse, I would like to ask...
What prescription items can you think of that would be of use or would be helpful to have for some who is trying to put together a decent medical kit? I am not really expecting to use it but am enjoying putting one together. I am not looking for injectables or serious type drugs like morphine etc. For example I believe you mentioned fusidic acid cream, I was not aware of this so thought you might be able to shed some light on a few other medicines that would be good.
Thanks.

Paramedic prepper had a good list. I'm using my phone so can't figure out how to attach the link.

I was being a bit cheeky. I'll knock it on the head, there's no need for it here.

Posted on a whim, I hadn't noticed the dates. Maybe I will start a new thread about these type of items/list, it might be of interest.
Lanky Yankee, I've read lot's of Paramedic prepper posts, I will have a reread thanks, though I think most his lists are OTC meds that I know. Was hoping to get some new ideas.
