I had an accident last Wednesday - sprained my left ankle and am on crutches. *boohoo*
I have driven in to work today but two things immediately sprang to mind about it:
1 friends and neighbours have been extremely kind and helpful, driving me to work on Friday and around at the weekend. It has made me realise that in a SHTF scenario, you really cannot go it alone
2 walking is too painful and whilst I can ask said friends and neighbours to do some shopping for me for fresh veg, I am eating out of my cupboards. I have already managed a couple of casseroles but it is going to be interesting to see how long it will take before I get "bored"!

Hi Maddie Cat,
I hope you get better - I've been on crutches a few times and a big area is that you are incredibly dependent on others....
a tip for transporting sandwiches / drinks is to put on a tray and shove along the floor in front of you with your crutches untill you get to a seat

That does sound bad, Maddie - get well soon!
The more I think about if TSHTF, the more I realise what you've pointed out - makes connections on here important, but also the local ones, absolutely.

I take it you don't do Internet shopping/home delivery for foodstuffs? Maybe a good time to try it out if you can get deliveries in your area..
Hope you heal up soon!

Re: Accident!
I found exactly the same. I broke my foot at the end of June and had to use crutches for 7/8 weeks... Not being able get out of the door for the first 6 weeks without help and couldn't drive for at least 8 weeks. Absolute nightmare having to rely on others for your shopping and everything else!
Re: Accident!
Hope you get better soon Maddie, and you're right of course for most of us, alone would not be good and would require more luck and experience to last a fair time than most are blessed with.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Re: Accident!
I do occasionally but at the moment, want to see how I cope with foodstuffs from the cupboard. Testing whether I am truly prepared really. It is a great idea to prepare for ITSHTF, but I always wonder whether I could really hack it.
