Yes they burn peat, and they also get coal in on the boat :mrgreen:
It's not dark for half the year lol but it def is windy. I love the long dark nights in Scotland, it#s peaceful and cosy and recharges the batteries. But not too keen on the light nights in summer.

I think the house is an odd mix of old fashioned Scots and designer yuppy modern. The box bed would be cosy but it's kind of plonked there, not in an alcove or corner as it would have been. And the stove is far too wee to heat that room :shock:

When Mrs B and I first moved to Shetland, we lived in a very similar house.
You would be surprised how warm those little fire stoves get as the walls are nearly a metre thick and hold the temperature well.
We burned peat most of the time, with a little wood now and then.

My last house was stone walls and yes they do hold the heat well, for a few days after the stove went out. This house is modern gas heated and as soon as the heating goes off, the house goes cold. But at least we don't have to trek out in the cold to get coal thank god :mrgreen:
