Are there groups of preppers who have agreed to meet up in a SHTF situation?

That sounds a great arrangement, pete, not living in each other's pockets, and each having specialised kit that you share. Good for you :)

we set it up more like a machinery ring idea from the old days. where each shares either their skills or kit.i do produce, another does accountancy and spread ssheets and computer stuff, the one guy works in a factory and so forth. it suits us the way it is and it usits as as we all like the idea of prepping. when Carole got stuck she knew she could call any of us and the first one there would take care of her and the kids and her husband also had somewhere to crash.

we dont really have the room for an extra family, long term but for two nights we played a game with bedsheet tents for the kids and having a bear hunt in the garden and so on. the biggest hassle was kids clothes, we dont own a tumble drier and when we washed the kids outfits over night we had not got them dry enough for the morning, ended up ironing underpants to dry them out and warm them up.

I appreciate that not everyone is looking to join up with others in a SHTF scenario, but from my experience having someone offering clear leadership and organisational skills would be a huge advantage when people are [stressed - panicking - shocked - confused - out of their depth]

Having a captain on a ship for example, or a conductor for an orchestra, otherwise it would be chaos and dangerous. I think many people would welcome experienced leadership in such a scenario.

In answer to the original post;

Part of our group problem is the distances involved for individual members, furthest being 80 miles away and the other 30 miles. The rest are much closer so its not too much of a problem.

Our problem is unless we can clearly identify the crisis start point, how will they know when to say GO / time to bug out and get to us. They have practiced a last minute / quick getaway run which worked well, but if the roads were in chaos? Who knows what it will be like in reality.

We have not made any plans to meet up with other groups though, which I think is what you were asking.
A) We dont know any other groups. (Yet?)
B) It would probably be too risky even if we did

This is the potential problem, having a defined 'chain of command' works in the Forces because every one knows their place and practice what they do. They might not like their place but you can work to change it or leave. There are a lot of times when it needs to be one head making the decisions, particularly in times of stress. Most of us don't want to be at the bottom end of that chain and this is why I'm sceptical of how effective prepper groups would be when things got a bit 'heated'. For the more mundane I can see the benefits of what Pete was describing and it will build up trust and the social aspect is always good too.
