Looking forward from Storm Desmond.
There's an old article in New Scientist that deals with the prospect of increased flooding that's worth a read I think.
It probably doesn't add much to most preppers knowledge but I like the fact that they are talking about preparedness on a community level and basically adapting to nature and not fighting it.

It maybe a controversial to say and naive of me but I disagree that we should not build on floodplains at all. It is possible to build on floodplains providing the correct precautions and buildings are built, but it would take a change in attitude knowing that they may be cut off by a metre of water for a week every few years.

Re: Looking forward.
Interesting. I live on a hill overlooking a flood plain. Excavation ( archaeological) 30 years ago showed that the Roman settlers went no where near the river. When that was done the developers slapped houses BEYOND those excavations. Guess what? They flooded inside 6 months, and still do on a regular basis.

Aye you can't beat it or mother nature but maybe we could adjust and learn to live alongside her.
From a prepping point of view I think it's important to understand that when things change it's often better to change with the situation rather try and fight it.
