CHECK THOSE SMOKE ALARMS!

Post by jansman »

Well, not content with having fire- happy neighbours next door, we have just had a minor 'fire' too. Literally minutes ago, as I am lying in bed drinking tea , I said to my Wife " have you put something in the oven?" She said that she had put some toast in the electric toaster. Downstairs in the kitchen.

Within seconds of that all three smoke alarms went off!

Shot downstairs, and the toaster was on fire. I killed the electricity immediately and then chucked a damp towel over the toaster and that did the job. Looks like the pop up thingy jammed.

That's how it happens folks. Check those smoke alarms!

That is a good link. I am pleased to say my wife was already poised with a 2 kg extinguisher!

Just goes to show how something a simple as making toast could have been a catastrophe. I'm glad it was averted. This thread did prompt me to go out and get a carbon monoxide alarm, purely because this demonstrated how something we take for granted can kill

The fire brigade bang on about smoke alarms, and quite right too. No harm done, but check those alarms! :D
